This Koroit opal star looks as though someone scattered tiny pieces of a rainbow across warm, earthy ironstone. Turn it in the light and flashes of orange, green, turquoise, blue, and violet appear in different places. I love how the colors seem to be hiding in the stone until they suddenly catch your eye.
I set the opal in fine silver, gave the surrounding silver little hand-cut details, and added a single 10k gold dot at one corner. The star measures approximately 19 × 19 mm in its setting, not including the bail. It hangs from an 18-inch sterling silver paper clip chain, with the silver oxidized and brushed for a rustic patina.
