This one wins the prize for hardest to photograph!
This incredibly large boulder opal has markings that remind me of pastel-colored cotton candy. The colors are so much more beautiful in person—especially the reds, which are notoriously difficult to capture in photographs. Depending on the angle, you’ll see beautiful shades of red, orange, and pink, mixed with sweeping lines of greenish blue.
I set this spectacular opal in fine silver and accented it with 14k gold. The opal in its setting measures approximately 30mm x 30mm and is attached to a lightweight sterling silver paperclip chain.
The necklace measures a tad over 18 inches in total length. The entire piece has been lightly oxidized and brushed to give it a soft, handcrafted patina.
Handcrafted in my studio, this is one of those opals that really needs to be seen in person to appreciate all the color and movement.
