Luna Lacuna — aka Dark Moon Turquoise
Luna Lacuna is a fascinating and relatively new stone coming from the Hubei turquoise-mining region of China. While it is not technically turquoise, it forms through a similar geological process and is found in the same turquoise-mining region. It's sometimes referred to as Dark Moon or Black Moon because of its wonderfully moody coloring and earthy, almost lunar appearance.
This particular piece has such a beautiful, mysterious presence that I couldn't resist giving it a little extra warmth.
I set the Luna Lacuna in fine and sterling silver and added a few silver DOTS along the bottom of the piece, continuing the natural pattern at the base of the stone. I finished it with a 14k gold-filled bale, which adds just the right touch of warmth against the dark stone.
The stone in its setting measures approximately 35mm x 26mm and is attached to a lightweight sterling silver chain. The necklace measures 18 inches long.
And if you love a matching set, I also have a Luna Lacuna ring in my shop.
