This pipe opal is super unusual—it has three distinct layers of color that give the stone so much depth and character. The top layer is a creamy off-white scattered with tiny flecks of orange, red, green, and yellow. Beneath that is a beautiful band of blue, followed by a green layer at the bottom with the best little natural “burp”—a bubble-like inclusion formed naturally within the stone.
The opal measures approximately 14mm x 9mm. I set it in fine and sterling silver and added two 14k gold DOTS for a little touch of warmth.
The pendant itself measures approximately 26mm x 16mm, not including the bale, and hangs approximately 31mm from the necklace. It’s attached to a sterling silver paperclip chain, bringing the total necklace length to 17.5 inches.
The entire piece has been lightly oxidized and brushed for a soft, aged patina that complements all those beautiful layers in the opal.
