This incredible wood replacement opal looks like a tiny, colorful portal captured in stone. Brilliant flashes of electric blue, vivid green, indigo purple, and chartreuse move through the earthy wood matrix, changing and shifting as the stone is viewed from different directions.
I set the opal in fine and sterling silver and added 18k gold accents for a touch of warmth. The entire piece has been lightly oxidized and brushed for a soft, rustic patina.
The pendant measures approximately 28mm x 16mm, including the bale, and hangs from a sterling silver paper clip chain measuring 17.75 inches long.
This opal was incredibly difficult to photograph. Its colors come alive with movement, and the camera simply couldn't capture everything this stone does in person. Depending on the angle and light, completely different flashes of blue, green, purple and chartreuse appear—so expect this one to be even better in person.
Truly one of those opals you have to see in motion.
