Like many natural Australian pipe opals, this stone has a tiny amount of embedded sand on its surface. These minuscule grains of the host rock became permanently fused into the gemstone during its natural formation, adding to its authenticity and one-of-a-kind character.
I set the opal in fine and sterling silver and added a single solid 18k gold DOT to bring a touch of warmth to the design. The opal, in its setting, measures 24mm x 17mm. The entire ring has been oxidized and brushed for a rich, rustic patina.
